Hon. Colonial Secretary.
Mr. Bagg came out here under agreement
to act as Wardmaster of Kennedy Town Hospital.
It is clear that, without his con- sent, he could not have been appointed a "Wardmaster in the Medical Department".
He arrived on 22nd, August, and there being few iffany patients at Kennedy Town Hospital as the Plague had practically ceased for a time,he was asked whether he would object to an alteration in the ar- rangement so small that he should be appointed "a Wardras- ter in the Medical Department".
On 35th. August (i.e. 3 days after
arrival) he consented to this in writing, saying
"I have no objection to joining as
- Wardmaster,Government Medical Department, to do duty at
any of the Hospitals of the Colony, with the exception of the Gaol Hospital, instead of Wardmaster K.F. Hospital". Accordingly he was so appointed by the
:
letter of 31st. August, 1900..
Some three weeks later he refused to
do duty at the Government Civil Hospital and says
: "I stand by my agreement which I signed
in England for the Kennedy Town Hospital".
But Mr. Bagg has altered that agree- ment, and in writing consented to such alteration.
